A Note from Fr. Athanasy

My Dear Friends of Saint Anne.
I am writing this newsletter, which will appear from time to time to let you know what is going on with our newest endeavor, The Convent of Saint Anne.

Because of the many requests for prayers, I have long thought of founding a small convent of nuns to assist me in the daily praise of God and intercession for the many intentions of our benefactors.

With the blessing of his Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion I received our first novice, Irene Kusmina,
She was tonsured on the Feast of the Conception of Saint Anne, December 2008 and was given the name Anna.

She has been a great help to me in keeping the daily services going during my bout with cancer, radiation and what for me has been a very difficult recovery, even to this day.

Part of the Parish house lends itself to a complete private area to accommodate 5 nuns. We are redoing floors, walls, bathrooms and general living conditions; to prepare for the arrival of nuns in the future. The sisters will also have their own Trapeza and reception room.

While the Holy Icon of Saint Anne has been dry, a while, our Good Grandmother Saint Anne has continued to help many people.

People of all nationalities continue to come here to seek the help of Saint Anne and to thank her for her answers to prayers.

We pray intercessions for our friends twice daily and during the various seasons when we serve 40 days of prayer to Saint Anne and the other saints. The daily monastic course of prayers are held and we have liturgy about two or three times a week.

Mother Anna has been received very well by the Parish and always has her "sleeves rolled up" to help.

As with any endeavor of this type, help is always needed. And I would beg you to help us achieve this great memorial of daily prayer to Saint Anne and the daily Monastic Offices.

Our parish has invested much in the renewal of the house but we are running short of funds.

May I humbly offer a few suggestions as to how we can be helped.

To help finish the five cells being prepared for the sisters, we could use a gift of $1000 for each cell.

Donations could me made in the memory of a deceased loved one who the sisters will pray for every day during her monastic life, or donate a cell in honor of a favorite Saint.

A gift of $1000 will make it possible for a Sister to purchase her habit and other Black clothes.

These needed donations will also help finish the kitchen and Trapeza.

Purchase fitted single sheets and pillowcases, towels & face cloths.

You can see our needs are not that great but in furnishing these things it will free up the Sisters from all their earthly cares - so that they may welcome the king of all "in a proper manner".

Please help us to realize a long time dream of mine to have a place where the praise of Saint Anne and the daily offices will go on, long after I am gone.
